At first, birds were a symbol for kitsch and a reflection/imitation of art.  The parrot was mimicking art from a popular cultural point of view. They were ‘parroting' expectations.  Now, the work shifts to another understanding of birds.  They are fragile, yet they survive.  They have become an indication of the health of our environment, and they allow us to see the world through strength and vulnerabilities.  Have you noticed that crows seem to have increased in numbers lately?  Crows, Ravens and Magpies or black birds are all Corvids and are often perceived to be bad omens.  These pieces hope to evoke an empathy with the context in which Corvids exist.  Through examination of symbiotic pairs, they become messengers.
